The short version:
The free local check runs entirely on your Mac; your video never leaves it. If you use cloud verification, only cropped images of flagged text, the flagged words, and their timecodes are uploaded. We never store your videos. We keep verification results and a file fingerprint for up to 30 days so re-checking a corrected export doesn't cost you full price.
Video Spell Checker and Spell Checker Cloud are operated by 1001261179 Ontario Inc., Canada. Data questions: [email protected].
What happens on your Mac
The local check (reading every frame of on-screen text and spell-checking it) runs entirely on-device. Nothing is uploaded, to us or anyone else, during a local check.
What is uploaded during cloud verification
Only when you run cloud verification, the app uploads:
- Cropped frame images containing the flagged text. When you've drawn analysis regions, crops are limited to those regions.
- The flagged words and their timecodes.
Your video file itself is never uploaded.
What we store
- Account data: your email address, device names, and device identifiers.
- Usage ledger: a record of verification minutes granted and spent, required for billing.
- Verification results and a content hash (a fingerprint, not the video) of each processed file, kept for up to 30 days. This lets us recognize a re-submitted video, say after you fix a typo and re-export, and not charge full price again.
We do not store your videos or the uploaded frames. Frames are processed to produce verification results and are not retained by us after the job completes.
Subprocessors
Spell Checker Cloud relies on four service providers:
- Anthropic (Claude API): processes the uploaded frame crops to verify flagged text. Anthropic does not train its models on this data and deletes API inputs and outputs within 30 days, except where longer retention is required to enforce its usage policies.
- Cloudflare: hosts the verification service and its database.
- Paddle: merchant of record for all purchases. Paddle holds your payment details; we never see your card number.
- Resend: sends sign-in code emails.
Your rights
Subject to PIPEDA (Canada), the GDPR (where applicable), and similar laws, you can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data by emailing [email protected]. Deleting your account removes your email, devices, and stored verification data; we may retain billing records we are legally required to keep for tax and accounting.
Security
All traffic is encrypted in transit. Device tokens are stored hashed on our side and in the macOS Keychain on yours. AI provider credentials live only on our servers, never in the app.
Changes
If we change this policy, including adding or replacing a subprocessor, we'll update this page and note the date above. Material changes will be announced by email or in the app.
